**Chelsea legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink want his former club to sign a goalkeeper this summer who possesses the necessary character and presence to be the Blues’ no.1.**
AC Milan’s Mike Maignan has been linked on and off with a move to Stamford Bridge over the past twelve months, and speaking to [_10bet_](http://10bet.co.uk/), Hasselbaink said he is hoping that someone like the France international will be brought in:
“I think if Chelsea is going to go for a goalkeeper now, they need somebody who is a little bit older with a bit of character and a big presence. I wouldn’t be able to give you a specific name who is available right now, but when they were trying to get Maignan, I was very happy.”
I like the idea of someone like that coming into the club – somebody coming from a massive club with a top mentality who has always been under pressure to deliver and win, whether at AC Milan or with the French national team. He will transmit that standard to the other players. That’s the kind of profile you need to bring in.”
Maignan is considering his future at Milan
------------------------------------------
While there is no longer any concrete interest in the Frenchman from Chelsea, the shot-stopper is reportedly weighing up whether to leave Italy once again.
Maignan only signed a new contract with the Rossoneri back in January, but the two architects of the deal, manager Max Allegri and sporting director Igli Tare, have since left the club.
The shot-stopper is believed to be unsettled, and there is a chance he could depart the San Siro before the transfer window closes.
Chelsea may decide to trust Penders instead
-------------------------------------------
At the moment, it isn’t believed that the Blues see a new keeper as a top priority. A [**centre-back (or two)**](https://chelseanews.com/blog/chelsea-transfer-news-jacobo-ramon-3/), a midfielder and a left winger are higher up the agenda.
The return of Mike Penders from his loan spell at Strasbourg means Robert Sanchez will have stiff competition for his place in the team, and if the Belgian impresses in pre-season, he could well be handed the gloves by manager Xabi Alonso.
