A sweltering hot day wasn’t enough to lower the energy level inside Anfield as Foo Fighters came to the home of Liverpool FC last night. The American rockers, fronted by Dave Grohl, arrived in L4, on an atypical Thursday for the British summertime, when temperatures soared into the high 30s.
Some fans braved the scorching conditions as they queued from the early afternoon, with free water and factor 50 suncream stations scattered around the turnstiles coming in particularly handy. The ECHO was in attendance and spoke to fans ahead of the show, who couldn’t wait to see the Best of You hitmakers in the flesh.
Foo Fighters were supported by Otoboke Beaver and Inhaler, before Grohl and his band emerged on stage around 7.30pm. As the sunset over L4, the boiling conditions had thankfully relented slightly and fans savoured another concert to remember at the home of Liverpool.
If you're heading to see Foo Fighters at their second gig on Saturday, the ECHO has rounded up five moments that stood out for us on night one at Anfield Stadium.

It was a scorching day in Liverpool as Foo Fighters performed at Anfield for the first time. Ahead of the show, an amber weather warning was issued for Merseyside as temperatures soared across the UK. Liverpool FC issued hot weather guidance for fans heading to the stadium, asking them to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen.
Frontman Dave Grohl addressed the temperature as he took to the Liverpool stage. He said: "You think it's hot now, m************, it's going to get hot. Are you ready?"

The ECHO team was outside chatting to fans ahead of the show and noticed how many families had turned out for the occasion. Mum and daughter, Marissa and Diana Tounshen, had travelled all the way from Portland and Illinois respectively to Liverpool and loved their first visit to the city.
Marissa said: “We took an eight hour flight, a two hour train and a one hour and 45 minute taxi to get here today.
“We’re so excited. I love Dave Grohl, and all of the Foo Fighters. What a treat to see them here, and instead of the States, honestly.”

In an arguable nod to the Reds, red smoke filled the stadium as fans cheered and applauded during the first minutes of the show. The band then went straight into the opening song of the night, All My Life. Next was two more of their biggest songs, The Pretender and Times Like These.
Sign language for fans
Reporter Ryan Paton attended the show on behalf of the ECHO and spotted a sign language interpreter in the crowd. BSL interpreters are trained professionals who translate not only lyrics, but also the energy of the music. The band performed more than 20 songs yesterday evening which were all intepreted.
