Arsenal have made their opening foray into the transfer market this summer. The Premier League champions have been linked with a string of high-profile targets since clinching their 14th top-flight title.

Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen to capitalise on a position of strength. The Spaniard is seeking reinforcements in central midfield, on the left wing and in attack.

Such expenditure this summer could see the Gunners approach the record £250million splashed on new arrivals last year. The club have also reportedly submitted a bid for a highly exciting young talent. We examine two of the most significant recent transfer developments surrounding Arsenal.

Arsenal confirm first signing

Arsenal have secured their first summer recruit after confirming the permanent acquisition of Piero Hincapie. The defender caught the eye during his loan spell this season and the Gunners have activated an option worth £34.5million, plus add-ons, to keep him at the club.

Hincapie arrived at the north London outfit last September from Bayer Leverkusen on a temporary arrangement. A deal to make the Ecuador international a permanent fixture of Arteta's squad has long been considered a foregone conclusion.

The 24-year-old, who is currently on World Cup duty with Ecuador, left a significant mark during his time at Arsenal. He featured on 25 occasions in the Premier League, contributing to their first domestic title triumph since 2004.

Arsenal's move to tie down Hincapie came amid reported interest from the likes of Real Madrid. Nevertheless, he has put pen to paper on a contract with Arsenal until 2031, with the deal set to become official on July 1.

Immediate response to bid

Arsenal's £5m offer for Leicester City starlet Jeremy Monga has been turned down. As reported by football.london, the Foxes are demanding around £10m for the 16-year-old.

It's understood the Gunners are looking to reach a compromise over the youngster, given his contractual situation and his apparent desire to make the move to the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal are keen to steer clear of a tribunal, which would ultimately determine a fee for Monga.

Monga etched his name into the history books as the Championship's youngest-ever goalscorer when he struck against Preston North End in August 2025. He is also the Premier League's third-youngest player, having made his debut at the age of 15 in April 2025, beaten only by Arsenal's own Max Dowman and Ethan Nwaneri.

Arsenal appear to be the frontrunners for the winger's signature, despite reported interest from Real Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea. The Gunners are said to be standing their ground and remain undeterred following the rejection of their opening offer.

The youngster penned an academy scholarship upon turning 16, but with Monga set to turn 17 next month, that arrangement could transition into a professional contract. However, he may be seeking an exit from the King Power Stadium following Leicester's relegation to League One.
