Chelsea have reached an initial agreement with Atalanta over a deal worth €60 million (£51.6 million) for highly-rated defender Marco Palestra, according to reports in Italy, as the Premier League club continue their aggressive recruitment of emerging talent.
Italian media claim negotiations between the two clubs have advanced in recent days, with an agreement in principle now in place. While the transfer has yet to be finalised, discussions are reportedly progressing towards a full agreement, with personal terms expected to be the next stage should the clubs complete the remaining details.
Palestra, regarded as one of Italy’s brightest defensive prospects, has attracted interest from several leading European clubs following his impressive rise through Atalanta’s academy.
Comfortable operating as a right-back or wing-back, the 21-year-old is valued for his pace, technical ability and attacking instincts, qualities that have made him one of the most sought-after young defenders in Serie A.
CHELSEA‘s pursuit of Palestra is consistent with the club’s transfer strategy under the current ownership, which has prioritised signing young players with long-term potential.
