Middlesbrough are still yet to receive an acceptable offer for star man Hayden Hackney this summer, amid fresh claims regarding Everton’s interest.

Hackney has entered the final year of his Boro contract and has interest from numerous Premier League clubs. With lofty aspirations, it remains likely that the midfielder will leave this summer.

However, Boro’s stance remains unchanged, and they will only allow Hackney, who turned 24 on Friday, to go this summer if their valuation is met. As yet, after turning down at least two offers from Everton, no one has been able to do that.

A new report from Sun journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon claims Everton are moving ahead of Crystal Palace in the race to land Hackney, however, because they are willing to offer a package that could hit £20million.

As of Friday morning, however, a senior club source indicated that the club are still yet to have their valuation met. It remains to be seen if Everton do table a new bid, and if so, whether it is deemed acceptable.

A number of clubs have expressed interest, but Nixon’s report also claims that Crystal Palace don’t value Hackney as highly as Everton, and would therefore try to make a deal more attractive to Boro by offering David Ozoh as part of the deal.

Having been linked to a Boro move earlier this month, however, it was already confirmed to Teesside Live that Boro have no interest in signing the defensive midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Derby County.

As things stand, Hackney remains a Boro player, with sources adamant the club will only sell when somebody meets their demands for the young star who, as well as being a former England Under-21 international, was voted the best player in the Championship last season.

Boro are due to return to Rockliffe next Thursday for the start of pre-season. Three days later they will jet off to Portugal for a week-long warm-weather camp on the Algarve. Hackney will be part of the travelling contingent unless there’s a major update within the next week.
