Liverpool transfer target Yan Diomande has spoken out on his future following a failed £86m opening bid, as Leipzig demand a brutal £112m summer package.
There is a very particular, almost deafening kind of noise that follows young footballers the second Liverpool start circling. It is a familiar rhythm for anyone who follows the Reds: it grows louder and every remarkably composed post-match interview delivered by a player well beyond their years.
Yan Diomande is learning all about that right now.
The RB Leipzig winger has quickly become one of the Bundesliga’s most heavily tracked attacking talents after a truly startling breakthrough campaign in Germany.
At just 19, the Ivory Coast international has moved well past the tag of being “one for the future.” He is now the focal point of genuine elite transfer conversations across Europe, with Liverpool repeatedly linked to the teenager as the Anfield hierarchy continue the crucial job of planning for the next evolution of their forward line.
Of course, Diomande’s rapid rise has not happened overnight Leipzig have once again demonstrated exactly why they remain one of the sharpest talent developers on the continent.
They bought him from Leganes for around €20 million last summer, the young winger arrived in Germany carrying plenty of expectation but relatively little global recognition.
Fast forward a few months, and he is putting up the kind of numbers and performances that make Leipzig’s initial scouting look like an absolute steal.
His tally of 13 goals and nine assists across all competitions has transformed him into the breakout star of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season.
More impressive still has been the sheer maturity of his game. Diomande doesn’t just pass sideways; he attacks full-backs directly, carries the ball with a potent mix of aggression and intelligence, and already looks perfectly comfortable performing under the unique pressure that comes with elite-level scrutiny similar to Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha.
He has taken that exact same form into the World Cup, continuing to turn heads for the Ivory Coast on the global stage. The 19-year-old winger has helped the Ivory Coast reach the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time ever.

Although his latest comments after the 2-0 win vs Curacao make it increasingly clear that this transfer saga is highly unlikely to be resolved while the World Cup is still ongoing.
“No, I don’t know [where he’ll be playing next season],” he said. “I’m not thinking about my future after the World Cup.
“I’m trying to put all my energy on the World Cup and see what is going to happen after, but I can’t say anything about that.”

As things stand today, Liverpool have not yet followed up with a second official offer. Last week, the Reds failed with an opening bid for Diomande worth around £86 million a massive statement of intent, but one that was knocked back by the Bundesliga club.
The reality facing Liverpool is a familiar one. Leipzig are under absolutely no immediate pressure to sell one of Europe’s brightest young gems.
While they are willing to pay a premium the German side value the Ivorian international significantly higher. There is an obvious risk though which is that every standout performance he puts in on the world stage only increases his transfer fee and inevitably, Leipzig’s leverage.
The club’s admiration for Diomande is undeniable, but the latest twist suggests Kopites should settle in for a long summer transfer saga one that will rumble on until the Ivory Coast’s World Cup adventure comes to an end and the teenager finally turns his attention back to his club future.
