Former Arsenal winger Theo Walcott has backed Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers to become the Gunners’ priority signing this summer, believing the England international possesses the qualities needed to elevate Mikel Arteta’s squad to another level.
Speaking as transfer speculation continues to surround Arsenal ‘s recruitment plans, Walcott singled out Rogers as the player he would target ahead of other high-profile names linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
The former England international believes Rogers’ versatility, athleticism and creativity make him an ideal fit for Arteta’s tactical system, with the 23-year-old capable of operating across several attacking positions.
Rogers enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Aston Villa, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most exciting young attacking talents.

Walcott said: “I’d probably be more inclined to go for Rogers if I was going to pick one. If you had to tie me down, I’d pick Rogers.”
“I like players that are in the Premier League then go to a Premier League team because we know what we’re going to get. He’s going to get better because he’s going to be with better players.”
Any move, however, would likely prove difficult. Aston Villa are understood to regard Rogers as a cornerstone of Unai Emery’s long-term project and would be reluctant to entertain offers unless presented with an exceptional bid.
Villa remain ambitious after establishing themselves among England’s leading clubs, and keeping their best young players is expected to remain a priority throughout the transfer window.
For Arsenal , recruitment plans are expected to focus on adding quality rather than quantity, with Arteta seeking players capable of immediately improving his starting XI while maintaining the club’s long-term vision.
