Sadio Mane has had a frustrating World Cup so far, with Senegal falling 3-1 to France before suffering a 3-2 defeat against Norway.

It leaves the Lions of Teranga needing a win over Iraq tonight to keep alive their hopes of progressing as one of the best third-placed sides.

“I think we are all disappointed. We entered the match determined to claim all three points, but unfortunately, the team was below its best this evening.” he said after the defeat to Norway.“I think Norway deserved to win.”

But Mane is also making moves away from the international stage, this time through his growing project as owner of French club Bourges.

The former Reds forward completed his purchase of Bourges Foot 18 in October 2023, with the club confirming his structural support as part of a push to professionalise the setup and raise the profile of football in the city. Reports at the time also noted that Mane had already helped the club financially in recruitment before the formal announcement

Bourges are as a National 2 side, which places them in the French fourth tier.

Now Mane’s outfit has announced their first signing of the 2026/27, confirming the acquisition of Japan winger Alpha Kubota on a free transfer from Nîmes Olympique.

According to the club, Kubota is joining after his involvement at the Olympic Games and bringing added experience to the squad.

A statement by the Championnat National 2 read:

“New recruit! Bourges FC is pleased to welcome Alpha Kubota.”

“At 29 years old, this right-wing midfielder joins our ranks from the Olympic Games to bring all his experience and qualities to the group.”

“Welcome Alpha! Together, let’s write the rest of the story.”

Bourges narrowly missed out on promotion last season after finishing second in their National 2 group, ending the campaign as the best runner-up but staying in the fourth tier for 2026/27.
