Tottenham Hotspur star Pedro Porro has insisted he holds no grudges against Manchester City, despite his failure to break through at the Etihad.
La Razon have comments from the 26-year-old today from an interview he’s held in Spain’s camp at the World Cup. The Tottenham defender has been speaking to various outlets across this week.
Tottenham key player
He is in reflective mood at this moment in time as Spain eye success at the tournament, where they are considered one of the favourites.
The full back can fully focus on his national side having already sorted his club future. He recently signed a new deal at Tottenham that will keep him at the club until 2031. It also includes an option of a further year.
He’s very much one of the key players in Roberto de Zerbi’s squad, having enjoyed that status since a €40m move in 2023.
But that was not always the case for him, at least in England. He initially moved to the Premier League in 2019 with Manchester City but failed to break through at the Etihad.
Manchester City struggle
Instead, he spent most of his time at the club out on loan, playing for Real Valladolid and Sporting Club de Portugal. He then joined the Portuguese side in an €8.77m deal in 2022.
A year later he had joined Tottenham, initially on loan before they then signed him on a permanent basis six months later. He ultimately failed to make a single appearance for Manchester City during his contract with them.
Now reflecting on that period, he insists that he has no issues with the club. In fact, he can only see the positives.
“You’re aware of that, because at the end of the day, you’re a young player; you need to develop,” he said.
“Manchester City was more of an investment in my future. And it simply didn’t work out, because I then went to Sporting, where I spent two years.
“I don’t hold any grudges against them, because I knew it was an investment. At that time, Cancelo was there, Walker was there – they’ve got some great players too – so it’s difficult to break into the team.
“It’s not easy, and I understood that perfectly. I went my own way, and it worked out well for me.”
