Liverpool appear set to forfeit a potential financial windfall as Harry Wilson moves closer to securing a switch to Leeds United.
The winger progressed through the academy at Anfield before making the move to Fulham in 2021. He featured twice for the first team under Jürgen Klopp for the Reds, but predominantly found it difficult to establish himself as a regular starter.
The Wales international subsequently joined Fulham on loan before sealing a permanent $15.8 million switch to Craven Cottage. Throughout his time with the west London outfit, the 29-year-old racked up 187 appearances for Marco Silva's team, reports Wales Online. Now, he'll depart Fulham on a free at the end of his contract.
He recently delivered the most impressive season of his professional career, scoring 10 Premier League goals and providing seven assists, sparking speculation about a potential return to the club where his footballing career commenced.
As part of the $15.8 million deal that saw him leave Anfield, Liverpool negotiated a 15 per cent sell-on clause. Nevertheless, the Reds will miss out on any proceeds from Wilson's next move as he is set to depart Fulham when his contract expires.
The Athletic has reported that Leeds have reached an agreement to secure Wilson's signature, with the player poised to join Daniel Farke's squad without a transfer fee.
The midfielder is anticipated to sign a long-term deal and will be offered an improved salary package at Elland Road, according to the Liverpool Echo. Several Premier League sides had been interested in Wilson prior to him selecting Leeds as his preferred option.

Fulham had attempted to extend his contract, which would have allowed Liverpool to still benefit from any subsequent sale.
Transfermarkt estimates Wilson's value at $28.5 million after his outstanding season. If Fulham had managed to obtain that sum while Wilson remained contracted, Liverpool would have received $4.2 million.
The Reds' prospects of triggering the sell-on clause suffered a setback last summer. Leeds had shown strong interest in acquiring Wilson 12 months previously, but a prospective move collapsed on deadline day.
LeedsLive reported that the Yorkshire outfit had met Fulham's confidential valuation for the winger, with Wilson also consenting to join the newly-promoted club. However, Fulham withdrew from the transaction in the final hours of the transfer window.

While Liverpool were forced to accept their missed financial gain, Wilson succeeded in moving past any transfer disappointment, delivering an exceptional season for Fulham across the entire campaign.
He is anticipated to sign for Leeds when his Fulham deal runs out later this month and may be joined by former Liverpool target Julian Brandt, who has likewise been associated with a move to Elland Road.
