Huge twist: Liverpool handed massive boost as they prepare second Yan Diomande bid

Liverpool have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, according to BILD.

The Reds have set their sights on Diomande and want the Ivorian to replace Mohamed Salah. Currently representing his country at the World Cup, the 19-year-old is one of Europe's most highly-admired teenage talents.

Diomande starred for Leipzig last season, showcasing his electric pace and phenomenal skillset. He found the net 13 times and provided 10 assists in 36 games across competitions.

Leipzig rejected Liverpool's initial offer of £87m for Diomande. Fabrizio Romano revealed that the German club are only willing to do business for the Ivorian attacker at around £100m.

BILD have given an update and they suggest a potential deal could be on the cards due to the Bundesliga club's financial situation. They write: "For (managing director) Marcel Schafer, the new coaching situation does not make the task any easier. The ex-professional is under pressure to sell players."

Leipzig have appointed Martin Demichelis as their new manager, and the Argentine replaces Ole Werner. The issue for Leipzig is that the cost of a change in coaching staff means funds need to be raised: "The background is the transfer proceeds of 113million euros (£97.3m) specified by the bosses, which Leipzig is to generate this summer."

The Germans do tend to lose their star players to top European clubs, and selling Diomande could help improve their finances. They similarly sold Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United last summer in a £74m deal, but want even more for the Ivorian.

Liverpool are reportedly readying a second bid for the winger, and it's believed to be a package deal worth £103.4m. That could prove too tempting for Leipzig to turn down.

Liverpool have reportedly already agreed on personal terms with Diomande and are trying to convince Leipzig to part with the player. The teenage wonderkid's recent comments suggest he is open to a move to the Premier League and Anfield looks his most likely destination.

Diomande fuelled talk of a switch to the English top-flight when he told reporters, "I am an RB Leipzig player, but why not?" He explained that he is leaving his agents to "sort out" his club future and his focus is on the World Cup.

The young attacker has been with Leipzig since July 2026, when he arrived from Spanish club Leganes. He'd been on the radar of several Premier League clubs beforehand but chose to further develop at Red Bull Arena.
