Everton signed former Liverpool goalkeeper Emily Ramsey on a free transfer in the summer of 2023. Ramsey had already spent time on loan with the Toffees during the 2022/23 season, making eight appearances, before returning permanently on a three-year deal after her contract at Manchester United expired.
She originally joined Liverpool in 2017, developing under England goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain. Ramsey made her senior debut in February 2018 in a 3-0 FA Women’s FA Cup fifth-round win over Chichester City.
After one season at Liverpool, she returned to Manchester United as part of their inaugural squad, becoming one of several former Centre of Excellence graduates to rejoin the club.
Everton have now confirmed that Ramsey will leave the club at the end of her contract this month. A club statement read: “Katja Snoeijs, Emily Ramsey, Toni Payne, Kenzie Weir, Melissa Lawley and Elise Stenevik will leave Everton upon the expiry of their contracts at the end of this month.
“Laila Harbert has also returned to Arsenal following the conclusion of her loan spell with the Club. Ramsey became a Blue in the same summer as Snoeijs – the goalkeeper initially signing on loan in August 2022 from Manchester United before making the move permanent the following summer.
“The shot-stopper stole the show at Goodison Park in October as her two penalty saves inspired Everton to victory in a shootout against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup.
“A popular character in the changing room, ‘Rambo’ brought the best out of fellow keeper Courtney Brosnan while forming one of the WSL’s strongest ‘goalkeeper unions’.”
Everton Technical Director, Nick Cox, said: “Everyone at Everton thanks all our departing players for their efforts, service and commitment during their time with the Club and we wish them the very best for the future as they move onto the next stage of their careers.”
Former Liverpool midfielder Melissa Lawley is also set to leave Everton, with Wolverhampton Wanderers already securing her on a two-year deal from July 1.
The 32-year-old joined Liverpool in 2019 and spent five seasons at the club, making more than 100 appearances. She helped the Reds win the 2021/22 Championship title and secure promotion back to the Women’s Super League after a two-year absence. She later moved to Everton, spending two seasons there.
