Newcastle are ready for Manchester City to ramp up their interest in Sandro Tonali once a move for Elliot Anderson is officially confirmed.
Those at the Etihad have struck a £116million deal for the Nottingham Forest midfielder, who is set to complete his switch once he's undergone a medical, which will take place after England's game against Panama this weekend.
Despite spending a club record fee on Anderson, City are ready to continue their investment in their midfield. Tonali has been linked with a move away from St. James' Park and Tottenham have come to the negotiation table, seeing an initial bid rejected.
Once their focus has switched from Anderson Newcastle believe that City will increase their efforts to land the Italian, who they value at £100m. City have been tracking Tonali for more than a year and the player is aware of their interest, reports the Telegraph.
Tottenham had an initial bid of about £75m rejected last week and the two clubs have remained in dialogue, but there has not been a second offer yet. Tonali is willing to move to London and likes the thought of playing for Roberto De Zerbi, but would be equally as happy to consider a move to Manchester.
Newcastle have already cashed in on Anthony Gordon, who joined Barcelona for £70m. The Magpies had accepted that one of their leading lights was always likely to leave, which keeps them on the right side of the financial rulings, but want to avoid an exodus.
Last summer they lost Alexander Isak after a saga that dragged on for months and impacted their recruitment and retention plans.

Bruno Guimaraes is their skipper and a player they would be loathed to lose, despite there now being a mild interest from Arsenal.
Like Tonali, the Brazilian would not be allowed to leave for anything less than £100m. The ex-Lyon man has struck up a huge bond with the club's fanbase and is adored, perhaps more than any other player in the squad.
Guimaraes has spoken about his affection for the club and whilst Newcastle are aware of the interest in him, he is far less likely to leave St. James' Park than Tonali.
