Arsenal prepared to make fresh approach for "complete" star after £55m proposal

Arsenal are prepared to make a second approach for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to The Daily Mail.

The Gunners made a verbal offer of £55 million for Guimaraes yesterday, but the proposal was immediately turned down.

The Magpies made it clear that the Brazilian was not for sale.

Despite this, Arsenal are poised to return with a fresh second bid. The Daily Mail claim that this is unlikely to change Newcastle’s stance.

Arsenal could eventually prise Guimaraes away from Newcastle

The 28-year-old, described as ‘complete‘ by Sky Sports, has been one of the standout midfielders in the Premier League in recent seasons.

The Brazilian had an injury-plagued 2025/26 campaign, but still fared impressively in the top-flight with 15 goal contributions from just 29 league games.

Guimaraes also impressed with his defensive involvements. He won six duels and two tackles per league appearance, while making five ball recoveries.

The former Lyon man completed 43 passes on average and was by far the Magpies’ standout performer.

In our view, the Gunners could eventually prise Guimaraes away from the Tyneside outfit, given he will enter the last two years of his contract next month.

Despite almost turning 29, Guimaraes has shown no signs of slowing down. He is in the prime of his career and would be a perfect partner for Declan Rice.

£55m was not sufficient to persuade Newcastle, but a package of around £70m would surely urge the Magpies to contemplate if Guimaraes wishes to leave.

There has been much talk about player resale value, but Guimaraes would be a level-raiser for Arsenal and provide a solid midfield upgrade in the pursuit of trophies.
