Arsenal are facing fresh competition in their pursuit of highly-rated Paris Saint-Germain defender Emmanuel Mbemba, with Bournemouth now exploring a deal for the France youth international.
The 18-year-old left-back is set to leave the French champions when his contract expires this summer, making him available for only a nominal training compensation fee.
Mbemba has attracted interest from several clubs after impressing in Paris Saint-Germain’s academy, where he captained the club’s Under-19 side to French Youth Cup success last season.
Arsenal have been working on a proposal to convince the teenager that north London is the ideal destination for his development.
The Gunners are understood to have presented a pathway focused on gradual progression through the academy and Under-21 setup before eventually challenging for first-team opportunities.
However, Bournemouth have now entered the race with an alternative development plan.
The Cherries have already held initial discussions with Mbemba’s representatives and believe their multi-club model could strengthen their chances of securing his signature.
Under Bournemouth’s proposal, Mbemba would initially spend time on loan at French side Lorient, another club within Black Knight Football Club’s ownership structure.
That arrangement would allow Bournemouth to closely monitor his progress while ensuring he receives regular senior football before making the step to the Premier League.
Arsenal cannot offer an identical pathway within a multi-club network, although they remain confident in the strength of their own development model.
The club’s recent record of nurturing young talent continues to be one of its biggest selling points.
Bukayo Saka, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly have all progressed through Hale End into Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad in recent years.
Arsenal can also point to William Saliba’s development after carefully managing the defender’s loan spell at Marseille before he returned to become one of Europe’s leading centre-backs.
Mbemba is capable of operating as both a left-back and a centre-half, with his versatility viewed as one of his standout attributes.
His performances for Paris Saint-Germain’s youth teams have also earned him recognition at international level with France’s junior sides.
Bournemouth’s interest is not expected to alter their immediate first-team transfer plans.
The south coast club remain focused on recruiting an experienced central defender, negotiating a new contract for Alex Scott and potentially signing another striker if Enes Unal departs.
For Arsenal, meanwhile, Mbemba represents another example of the club’s continued commitment to identifying elite young talent across Europe before they establish themselves at senior level.
With both clubs now actively pursuing the defender, the battle for one of France’s brightest defensive prospects appears set to intensify in the coming weeks.
