Liverpool will have an extraordinary eight free agents next summer if no new contracts are agreed, including the club captain and the Reds’ longest-serving player.
The topic of contracts has felt ever-present in recent years, with Liverpool losing several key figures on free transfers.
Mo Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate became the latest this year, and there are several that could join them just a season later if no new deals are agreed between now and then.
As it stands, this is what Liverpool’s current contract situation looks like.

Where are Liverpool up to in contract negotiations?

Curtis Jones is a pressing case as he has been targeted by Inter Milan, who have yet to table an offer close to Liverpool’s £35 million valuation.
The *Telegraph*‘s Dominic King, however, writes that Jones could still resume talks over a new contract if he stays at Anfield this summer, though “that is something for later in the year.”
Meanwhile, talks have been held with **Dominik Szoboszlai**‘s camp to extend his deal beyond 2028, but no significant progress has been made on that front.

The hope will be that changes throughout the campaign as Liverpool will otherwise face the prospect of sanctioning a sale next summer or making him see out the final year of his deal before losing him on a free.
Alexis Mac Allister is also without terms from 2028, but unlike his midfielder partner, no negotiations have taken place regarding an extension.

There are no shortage of big names who are without terms beyond the current season, including Virgil van Dijk and Alisson.
Alisson‘s contract was extended into 2026/27, and he will be retained this summer despite interest from Inter.
Both could play on for a number of years yet, but there has been no hint of further deals as it stands.
Joe Gomez, the club’s longest-serving current player, will be anticipated to bid farewell next summer after 12 seasons at Anfield, assuming a sale is not sanctioned this year.

That feels unlikely now with Konate having left for Real Madrid, leaving only himself, Van Dijk, Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet as senior centre-back options.
Kostas Tsimikas, Wataru Endo and Stefan Bajcetic are also at a crossroad, though the left-back is likely to be given another opportunity after the exit of Andy Robertson.
A sale for Endo and a loan for Bajcetic could also be on the cards, though Iraola may offer both a lifeline.
Liverpool have a lot of boxes to check when it comes to their long-term squad planning, but it cannot be forgotten that the two key figures overseeing it, in Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes, are also out of contract in 2027.
A significant rebuild is ahead on and off the pitch.
