But there appear to be plenty of ifs and buts about suggestions from Catalonia that they could go for Roony Bardghji.
The Swedish wideman is said to be available for a potential switch, although the Spanish champions are not desperate to let him go.
Diario Sport, the Barcelona-based daily newspaper and associated website, have led the way in reporting Albion interest in the player.
They have an array of well-connected Barca reporters but tend to be hit-and-miss on transfer news.
Sport believe Bardghji has suitors in Europe and that Premier League clubs would make the most attractive offers to the player.
They see Albion as a preferred option to Leeds, who are thought to be keen.
The Seagulls took Ansu Fati on loan from Barcelona almost three years ago and, while the move was ultimately not a success, the Catalan giants were clearly happy to see him head to the Amex.
Albion have already spent £21.5 million on a young winger in Zadok Yohanna and have Tommy Watson, Amario Cozier-Duberry and Yun Do-Young coming back from loan.
That is on top of Yankuba Minteh, who is being intermittently mentioned in relation to interest from clubs including Liverpool.
And Albion tended not to play with two genuine wingers last season, anyway.
The suggestion in Catalonia is that Albion would look to Bardghji if Minteh were to be tempted away.
Bardghji, 20, has made 28 senior appearances for Barcelona.
His Swedish compatriot Yasin Ayari is a regular in the Albion midfield.
Bardghji has said he is keen to move on to secure more playing time.
Barcelona boss Hansi Flick cannot offer that but likes Bardghji’s talents.
Sport reported: “Barcelona will not force his exit but, if a good offer for all parties appears, they will allow him to go.”
