Liverpool are prepared to sell Cody Gakpo this summer if a club meets their valuation of the forward, according to a respected journalist.
Gakpo was the first-choice left winger for much of last season after Liverpool failed to replace Luis Diaz, seeing the Dutchman become the focus of much criticism.
Victor Munoz has already been added to the squad to bolster that position, but Gakpo’s future remains uncertain amid a willingness from Liverpool to broker a deal at the right price.
Speaking on the current state of play, Liverpool journalist David Lynch told Born ‘N Red that club staff have indicated that they would sell the 27-year-old if their valuation is met.
“With Gakpo, what is interesting is that Liverpool made clear to me that they would sell him for the right price,” Lynch said.

“I didn’t expect that, I didn’t think that would be the feeling I got when I spoke to them about that, because they have got an awful lot to do.
“But clearly, if someone comes in with the right money [they’re open to a sale], and that is a big if, by the way.”
As for the fee the club would be eyeing, Lynch added: “I think they would be looking for in the region of £65-70 million, because you look at what Anthony Gordon went for.
“There’s a willingness on Liverpool’s part to do that [more business] if the right money comes in, because he’s not necessarily considered as one of the untouchables.”
A price tag around the £65m to £70m mark reflects the continual inflated state of the current market, but it would also leave Liverpool with more work to do in the transfer window.
The club remain in pursuit of winger Yan Diomande, and still need additions at right-back, midfield and ideally at centre-back, not to mention the prospect of another forward.
With Gakpo viewed as being outside the club’s top three attackers, it is not a complete surprise that Liverpool are seemingly prepared to cash in if a bid matching their demands is tabled.
Lynch’s comments corroborate earlier reports from the BBC of a minimum price tag of upwards of £60 million for Gakpo, who have Tottenham “monitoring his situation.”
The Dutchman only signed a contract extension last August until 2030, but the noise over his future is growing louder as the Reds seemingly advertise his availability.
He is currently at the World Cup with the Netherlands, who have qualified for the round of 32 as group leaders; he has two goals and an assist to his name from three outings.
