The news about Chelsea player Enzo Fernandez’s transfer has taken a new turn. The Blues have agreed to release him, but only if the other club is ready to pay an exorbitant price.

Chelsea name huge price for Fernandez’s release

**The West London club**is ready to let Fernandez go. However, it won’t be for ‘free’. As reported by Goal, the Blues want at least £120 million for the 25-year-old attacking midfielder. He was acquired by the Blues from Benfica for £107 million in February 2023. Real Madrid is currently leading the race to acquire Enzo Fernandez.

Fernandez represented Benfica from 2022 to 2023. Before that, he played for Argentinian club River Plate. He joined the youth academy in 2007. He made his senior debut for the club in 2019. Chelsea aimed to retain Fernandez for another season. However, it seems that the midfielder had other plans.

Fernandez’s stats for the 2025-26 season, as per FOTMOB:

Competitions Matches Goals Assists

Premier League 36 10 4

FA Cup 4 2 1

UEFA Champions League 10 3 2

FIFA Club World Cup 7 1 3

Enzo Fernandez’s overall contribution to Chelsea

Fernandez is to Chelsea what Messi was to Barcelona. He also led the team on several occasions when demanded. The attacking midfielder also played a crucial in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Chelsea won their second Club World Cup title since the 2021 edition.

Apart from the Club World Cup victory, Chelsea also finished in second place in the 2025-26 FA Cup. The Blues lost the final to Manchester City 1-0. They progressed to the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League, and also made it to the semifinals of EFL Cup. However, they couldn’t produce a similar performance in the Premier League. Chelsea finished 10th overall in the 2025-26 Premier League.

Fernandez was also a part of the 2022 World Cup winning team from Argentina. He was a part of the team that won the 2024 Copa America title. Naturally, he would want to extend the winning momentum.

What’s next for Enzo Fernandez?

For now, Fernandez is focusing on making it big at the ongoing FIFA World Cup. The defending champions have begun their World Cup campaign on a brilliant note. With back-to-back victories against the teams from Austria and Algeria, Argentina has officially qualified for the Round of 32. The final group match against Jordan on June 28 will be a mere formality.

However, if Fernandez wants to make it big in club football, he needs to be in prime form. The attacking midfielder has to focus on both his fitness and his discipline concerns. Fernandez sustained two knee injuries in October and November 2025. Additionally, he received 10 yellow cards during the 2025-26 Premier League season. If he overcomes these inconsistencies, nothing can stop him from entering Santiago Bernabeu.

Chelsea is already working on a deal to send Fernandez to Real Madrid. The deal for Marc Cucurella was recently completed by the Spanish club. Cucurella previously played for Chelsea between 2022 and 2026, and he will join Real Madrid on July 1. Los Blancos may also offer players in exchange for Fernandez apart from the asking price. Players like Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, Jacobo Ramon, Arda Guler, and Chema Andres may join Chelsea under this transfer package. It remains to be seen if Fernandez performs for Los Blancos with the same intensity as he did at Chelsea.
