Sensational forward Yan Diomande and Liverpool are very close to finalizing a huge transfer.
How close are Liverpool to signing Diomande?
This whole transfer saga for Yan Diomande has been the most sensational story of the summer so far. There have been constant developments in the story and some rigorous bidding as well. The two clubs primarily involved in this transfer race are Liverpool and Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain. PSG have consistently monitored Diomande throughout this transfer window. But they are yet to involve themselves in the transfer by making a bid.
Diomande’s 2025/26 RB Leipzig stats, as per FOTMOB:
COMPETITION APPEARANCES GOALS ASSISTS
BUNDESLIGA 33 12 8
DFB POKAL 3 1 1
On the other hand, Liverpool have been heavily involved in this Diomande saga. They have refused to shy away from making formal bids for the Ivorian. The Reds initially made an offer worth £86.7 million. However, RB Leipzig immediately rejected the offer as they value the 19-year-old heavily. Leipzig are only looking to entertain offers close to £103–128 million. Some might feel the price-tag is “too much” for Diomande. But Leipzig wouldn’t want to let go of their highly rated young talent for a par fee.
What are the recent developments in this transfer?
There have been strong developments in this blockbuster transfer story. The Ivorian is closer than ever to joining Liverpool. However, the problem is that only personal terms have been agreed between club and player. Diomande has also avoided the possibility of a PSG move, because of the game time possibilities he will be presented in Liverpool, compared to PSG.
Leipzig have been extremely strong in their stance of not letting Yan Diomande go for anything below £128 million. Even when one considers the kind of generational talent the Ivorian is, £128 million is still an extremely inflated price tag. Furthermore, a couple of months back RedBull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff talked about how letting the 19-year-old would be a mistake.
“If I were the sporting director, I wouldn’t sell this young player—who hasn’t even been with us for a full season yet—no matter what price is offered,” Mintzlaff said.
But Liverpool are as adamant as Leipzig to secure the signature of Yan Diomande. Consequently, they are pushing for the transfer as hard as possible. As talks continue between both clubs, the Ivorian’s agency Roc Nation are urging RB Leipzig to close the deal as soon as possible. They consider Liverpool to be an excellent destination for the 19-year-old’s growth and career in general.
How will Diomande enhance the Liverpool squad?
Diomande is part of new Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola’s first group of incoming players. The Reds have already completed the signing of Spanish winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna. These attacking signings and especially winger signings are understandable, as Liverpool legend and icon Mohamed Salah departed the club last season. His departure is going to leave behind a massive void so the Reds will look to secure Diomande as soon as possible. As he will be specifically essential for the squad to replace a player like Salah.
It has to be mentioned, Liverpool are going through a squad overhaul. This heavily because of their disappointing season last time around, as they finished fifth in the Premier League. That is a rather embarrassing finish for a club of Liverpool’s stature. Some key players like Andy Robertson, Ibrahima Konate and as mentioned earlier, Mohamed Salah are all departing the club.
Author’s opinion
The Reds and the Liverpool faithful would be hungry for the upcoming season. It’s been a while since they faced failure like the 25/26 season. So before the football and on-field matters begin, they would like to start strongly off the field. And the first statement move would be to close the Diomande deal as soon as possible.
