The latest Liverpool news has taken a major turn as teenager Yan Diomande publicly addresses growing transfer speculation linking him with a summer move from RB Leipzig.
Yan Diomande stays focused as World Cup pressure builds
The 19-year-old Ivory Coast winger has been one of the standout players at the tournament in North America this summer. His direct running, sharp decision-making in tight spaces, and ability to beat defenders one-on-one have caught the eye of several top European clubs. As reported by Goal, Diomande was asked directly after the Ivory Coast’s 2-0 win over Curacao on whether he had already decided his next club. He gave nothing away, answering with a calm and measured head that belied his 19 years.
“That, I don’t know. I am not thinking about my future after the World Cup. I am trying to focus all my energy on the World Cup and see what happens after,” he said, as reported by Goal. For a 19-year-old managing interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, that level of focus speaks for itself. Diomande has started every group stage game for the Ivory Coast, contributing one goal and two assists.
Diomande’s 2025/26 RB Leipzig stats, as per FOTMOB:
COMPETITION APPEARANCES GOALS ASSISTS SUCCESSFUL DRIBBLES
Bundesliga 33 12 8 10
DFB Pokal 3 1 1 14
Liverpool prepare record bid as Anfield rebuild gathers pace
Liverpool have been heavily linked with Diomande for weeks, and the latest news suggests the club are now ready to make their move official. Andoni Iraola has identified the teenager as his top priority this summer, keen to bring in a direct, dynamic winger as Liverpool look to reassert themselves among the Premier League’s top challengers. As reported by Liverpool Echo, the Reds are reportedly preparing an £86 million package to put on the table at Leipzig.
Leipzig, however, are not ready to negotiate on their terms. The German club are holding out for around £112 million, and with Diomande’s stock rising by the game at this World Cup, they have every reason to stay firm on that valuation. From a tactical standpoint, Diomande suits Iraola’s system well. Iraola prefers high-intensity wingers who press aggressively and carry the ball at pace into the final third.
PSG rivalry threatens to derail Liverpool’s transfer plans
The Liverpool news around Diomande has a complication that goes beyond the asking price. PSG are now firmly in the race, and Diomande himself has not exactly hidden his feelings about the French club. As reported by ESPN,“I’ve loved PSG since I was little. I think my father was a PSG supporter,” he admitted in a previous interview. Those words will not have gone unnoticed at Anfield, and they add a layer of genuine uncertainty to a deal Liverpool were quietly confident about.
PSG are the reigning European champions and can offer Diomande a direct route to the biggest stages in club football at just 19. Adding to Liverpool’s concerns, Leipzig are also working on a fresh contract offer for Diomande, one that includes a release clause reflecting his current market value, as the German club look to tie him down rather than lose him this summer.
Once the World Cup ends, Liverpool will need to move fast. PSG have the glamour and the Champions League pedigree. But Iraola can offer Yan Diomande something different, a clear role at the centre of a project built around players exactly like him. Liverpool will have to make it convincingly before PSG do.
