Arsenal transfer news: Mikel Arteta wants him. Bruno Guimarães, currently out in the heat of a World Cup campaign with Brazil, has given the green light for intermediaries to hammer out a deal. This isn’t a fishing expedition from North London. Arsenal are pushing hard, moving with a speed that has caught plenty in the game off guard. The midfielder isn’t keen on sticking around for a lengthy, drawn-out rebuild on Tyneside. He wants elite football now.

Since swapping Lyon for Tyneside in January 2022, the Brazilian has bagged 31 goals in 195 games, famously helping end Newcastle’s 70-year domestic trophy drought against Liverpool in the 2025 Carabao Cup final.
Arsenal’s opening gambit didn’t land well. Fabrizio Romano confirmed a £55 million opening bid was instantly knocked back by the Newcastle hierarchy, who value their skipper closer to the £100 million mark.
St James’ Park chiefs don’t think Arsenal will go that high. But the Gunners aren’t backing down. A second, heavier bid is already being prepared in North London. Arteta needs that flawless ball-retention, that tactical steel to defend Arsenal’s domestic crown. Liverpool and Manchester United are sniffing around, but Arsenal are the ones putting real money on the table.

Newcastle know they are in a corner here.
