Sky Confirm Liverpool Midfield Target Does Have£75.5M‘Buyout’Clause

Liverpool can sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha for €85m (£75.5m), according to reports.

Sky Sports reporters Keith Downie and Dharmesh Sheth are usually very reliable when it comes to transfer stories, and they claim the German international does have a “buyout” clause in his contract.

Nmecha has been linked with the Reds, along with Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid in recent weeks.

However, Downie and Sheth say that Newcastle have also entered the fray, amid doubts over the future of captain Bruno Guimaraes and teammate Sandro Tonali.

What is Nmecha’s stance on his future?

It is believed that the 25-year-old is happy at Dortmund, having only signed a new four and a half year contract back in March, making him one of the Bundesliga club’s highest earners.

Nmecha is currently focused on the World Cup, where he has impressed in Germany’s first three games.

However, a move back to England can’t be ruled out. He came through the academy at City, and the fact that he is classed as a “homegrown” player will make him a particularly attractive option for English teams.

Would Liverpool pay the release clause?

The Reds are definitely in the market for a central midfielder. Fabrizio Romano revealed earlier this week that the Merseysiders made an enquiry for West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, and he is confident that bringing in reinforcements for that position is on the club’s agenda.

Nmecha’s buyout fee is pretty tempting, and there is a previous precedent when the Reds paid the release clause for Dominik Szoboszlai in 2023.

The big question, though, is how much sporting director Richard Hughes is willing to spend on strengthening the midfield when a considerable amount of resources will be needed to secure a replacement for Mo Salah.
