Bye bye: Liverpool now willing to sell popular ace who Virgil van Dijk thinks is "amazing"

Liverpool have reportedly informed winger Federico Chiesa that he can find a new club this summer, not being seen as part of the club’s future.

The Italian may rarely have set the world alight in a Reds shirt, but that hasn’t stopped him from being a popular figure among the supporters, due to his infectious character.

But with Andoni Iraola now in charge at Liverpool after replacing Arne Slot, big decisions are required when it comes to the futures of certain figures.

Chiesa is one of those, having only featured sporadically in his two years at Anfield, and now Football Insider report that he has been told he is surplus to requirements with the Reds.

It is claimed that the 28-year-old is available for between £10m and £15m after “struggling to break into the starting XI”, and he is “currently weighing up offers as he looks to reignite his career.”

The right time for Liverpool and Federico Chiesa to part ways

As mentioned, Chiesa’s personality can’t be questioned, and he is clearly popular among his Liverpool teammates, with captain Virgil van Dijk lauding him in the past:

“Fede is an amazing character, he works so hard and has been unlucky with injuries but we are all here for him and we all know what kind of impact he could have,” Van Dijk explained. “He’s a great character and we all love him, I think everyone can see that, and he’s loved by the fans, and to produce moments like he has [against Bournemouth] is something we all want to see.”

But this is the right time for Liverpool and Chiesa to part ways, with the winger not the same player who lit up Euro 2020 with Italy back in 2021, losing pace after plenty of injury problems.

The Reds need to be looking at superior and younger wide options moving forward, with Victor Munoz already arriving from Osasuna and RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande hopefully the next man through the door.

If Chiesa does leave, he will be remembered as a player who gave his all, chipping in with some important goals, but ultimately not doing enough to be considered a successful signing.
