Federico Chiesa‘s intention is to be involved in Liverpool’s pre-season and “play his cards” to new head coach Andoni Iraola.

The Italian is expected to move on this summer after two years on Merseyside, but his summer will first see him take part in Liverpool’s pre-season.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano recently stated on his YouTube channel: “At the present time, the decision made by the Liverpool player is to participate in the preseason.”

The intention is first “to get together with the new coach Andoni Iraola,” with Chiesa wanting “to play his cards” after the club’s change in direction.

Talks will take place with Iraola and Co., if they have not already, as squad planning continues to take shape after the arrival of Victor Munoz and the bid to sign Yan Diomande.

It reiterates Chiesa’s recent comments about his future, which will see him join the club on their pre-season tour of the US next month.

Chiesa has played a measly 1,253 minutes across his two seasons at Anfield and was not named in a recent report regarding Liverpool’s four-man plan for the wings.

He has the versatility to play several positions across the forward line, but having voiced a desire for regular minutes, he could be made to look elsewhere if Iraola is planning without him.

Romano name-checked Juventus, Inter, Napoli and Roma as clubs who could look to register interest in the 28-year-old, with a return to Italy widely expected, but only later in the window.

Liverpool currently have six forward options heading into next season, including Chiesa and Hugo Ekitike, who is expected to be sidelined until 2027 with a serious Achilles injury.

Diomande is being actively pursued, but even if he were to arrive and Chiesa depart, Iraola would still be left with only a handful of options and the immediate need to keep them all fit.

If game time cannot be promised, Chiesa will seemingly push for the exit, but supporters will be eager to know if further depth will be added beyond Diomande or any alternative.
