BREAKING: Yan Diomande Snubs Liverpool Transfer to Agree 5-Year PSG Contract

Liverpool’s summer transfer plans have been dealt a staggering blow. Yan Diomande, the 19-year-old sensation who topped the Reds wishlist to replace Mohamed Salah, has reportedly rejected a move to Anfield in favour of a switch to Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain.

The news comes as a massive shock to the Merseyside faithful, especially after Liverpool launched a jaw-dropping €100 million (£86.6m) opening bid for the RB Leipzig winger last week.

While that initial proposal was rebuffed by the German side, the Reds were widely expected to return to the negotiating table with an improved offer. Instead, the French powerhouse has stolen a march on the Premier League giants.

Why Diomande chose Paris over Merseyside

According to a bombshell report from The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the teenage prodigy has officially chosen PSG as his next destination, leaving Liverpool scrambling for alternatives. Despite intense courting from Anfield officials, Diomande’s head has been completely turned by the allure of the French capital.

Reports indicate that Diomande “believes in the project” at the Parisian club and “wants to play for head coach Luis Enrique.”

Furthermore, Ornstein adds that the young winger sees a move to the Parc des Princes as “giving him the best opportunity to consistently compete for trophies and potentially become a future Ballon d’Or winner.” The opportunity to join the back-to-back European champions proved to be an irresistible temptation for the rising star, who was also said to be “swooned by PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s project.”

The gaping void left by Mohamed Salah

Diomande’s decision leaves Liverpool in a high-stakes predicament. The club viewed the Ivorian international as the primary heir to Mohamed Salah following the Egyptian icon’s departure at the end of the 2025/26 season.

Currently representing the Ivory Coast at the World Cup, Diomande has been central to one of the key storylines of this transfer window. His breathtaking pace, elite vision, and rare ability to play at a world-class level on either flank made him the perfect tactical fit for Liverpool.

The numbers speak for themselves: the teenager racked up an astonishing 20 goal contributions in 33 Bundesliga appearances last season, making him one of the most coveted assets in world football.

While Diomande has made his preference crystal clear, the transfer is not yet entirely across the line. RB Leipzig are notoriously tough negotiators and have been holding out for a fee closer to €130 million (£112m) to sanction a sale this summer. The German club is also holding out hope that he will stay and sign a new contract.

Should he depart for the rumored €130m price tag, he would become the club’s record sale. It currently remains to be seen if the French side are willing to pay the exact fee Leipzig demand, but they aren’t wasting any time.

Acclaimed journalist Fabrice Hawkins reports that Diomande has already agreed to terms on a five-year PSG contract, and formal negotiations between PSG and Leipzig are already underway.

While Diomande’s decision is an early blow to Iraola’s transfer planning, the Spaniard has been proactive in the window, already adding another winger to his ranks with his countryman Victor Munoz.

With PSG waiting in the wings throughout Liverpool’s reported interest, they have struck at the perfect moment. Liverpool must now pivot quickly in the market to ensure Iraola has the firepower necessary to compete at the highest level during the 2026/27 season.
