Man Utd and Chelsea are regarded as the favourites to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, according to reports.
Newcastle were recently linked with the German international, but TEAMtalk claim that a move to St James’ Park isn’t on the cards.
The Magpies deem Nmecha’s €100m (£86m) asking price too high, while the player himself isn’t particularly keen on a switch to the North East.

It is believed that the Red Devils (along with Chelsea) are showing “strongest interest” in the former Manchester City player.
Nmecha’s stock is on the rise
The 25-year-old has caught the eye while playing for his country at the World Cup. He has scored 1 goal and provided 2 assists in 3 group matches for Germany.
Nmecha’s performances may be attracting the attention of big clubs, but Dortmund feel they are in a very strong negotiating position. The player only signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract in March.
TEAMtalk do, however, report that the Bundesliga side may end up accepting an offer below €100m (£86m), but it will still be an expensive purchase regardless.
What does this mean for Man Utd’s pursuit of Fernandes?
At the time of writing, United and Tottenham remain locked in talks with West Ham as they vie for the Portuguese international’s signature.
As there is no guarantee that Michael Carrick’s side will win the battle, the club will have to hedge their bets somewhat and look at potential alternatives.
Talks with the representatives of Bournemouth’s Alex Scott have reportedly taken place, and it would not be a surprise if similar discussions have been held with Nmecha’s entourage.
Fernandes, Scott and Nmecha all have pretty similar asking prices (with all expected to cost close to £80m), so Director of Football Jason Wilcox could easily pivot from one target to another if needed. It is a situation to keep a close eye on.
