“I’m flattered” – Arsenal star asked about transfer links, would be surprise move

Arsenal, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have shown keen interest in Atlético Madrid star Julián Alvarez.

The Argentina international wants a move to the Camp Nou while Atlético have no plans to sell him to Barcelona.

After a public fallout between the two clubs over Alvarez, Atlético would prefer to sell him to Arsenal or PSG.

Earlier this month, we relayed news that both the Gunners and the Ligue 1 winners have the funds to meet the €150m starting price.

Last week, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that the Madrid club have offered the striker to Mikel Arteta’s side for €60m plus Viktor Gyökeres. However, Alvarez isn’t keen on joining the Premier League winners.

Arsenal player happy with transfer claims

The Sweden international arrived at the Emirates from Sporting in July 2025. He was the first-choice striker for Mikel Arteta and managed 21 goals and three assists from 51 matches.

He’s at the World Cup, preparing for the Round of 32 clash against France on Tuesday.

Fotbollskanalen have relayed Viktor Gyökeres’ comments on the Arsenal exit links.

The outlet points out Spanish claims made about Atlético Madrid’s interest in a swap deal involving Julián Alvarez. They also relay claims about other unnamed clubs making approaches. The Gunners are reportedly refusing to sell unless there’s a substantial offer.

When asked about these links, he said: “Of course it’s flattering to see that clubs are interested but I feel extremely comfortable at Arsenal. After the season we have had, I only have positive feelings.

When quizzed on how he handles these claims during the World Cup, Gyökeres explained: “Nothing. I’m here, have a fairly important match, and that is the main focus.”

Viktor Gyökeres said he has ‘only positive feelings’ after Arsenal’s title winning season.

However, he hasn’t categorically ruled out a summer exit, and his latest comments should encourage his suitors.

The Gunners have to decide whether to keep him if they receive a tempting offer. The Swede has a contract until 2030, and Transfermarkt value him at €65m.
