Curtis Jones ‘targeted’ by Nottingham Forest as Premier League price tag set

Nottingham Forest are reported to have made Curtis Jones a “target” this summer, with Liverpool having now set their price for Premier League clubs.

In recent days, it was claimed by the *Mail*‘s Midlands reporter, Tom Collomosse, that Forest were “thought to be considering” Jones.

This has now been corroborated and taken up a notch by reporter Ben Jacobs and talkSPORT, who say he is now a “target” for Forest.

Jacobs explained that “Liverpool aware of the Forest interest” and “value Jones in the region of £40 million.”

He added that “Forest also have Spurs’ Lucas Bergvall high in their thinking.”

Meanwhile, talkSPORT reported: “Liverpool value Jones in the region of £40million, but it is unclear whether Forest are prepared to go that high.

“Liverpool are content to keep hold of Jones if their asking price is not met.

“Jones is heading into the final year of his contract, but should he remain beyond this summer, talks over a new contract are not ruled out.”

The 25-year-old’s deal expires next year and is understood to have been exploring a move to Inter Milan earlier this summer.

However, Liverpool swiftly turned two bids from the Italian club, the second of which came to just £21.7m – a measly sum for a player of Jones’ status.

Given Forest have just agreed to sell Elliot Anderson to Man City for £116m, the Midlands outfit have money to spend and Liverpool would make sure to capitalise.

The Reds also have the reported bartering position of being able to say they are happy to keep Jones and lose him for free in 2027.

Does Curtis Jones want to leave Liverpool?

It didn’t take a mind-reader to see there was something wrong with the relationship between Jones and Arne Slot towards the end of the Dutchman’s reign.

While the Liverpool man always tried to stand up and take responsibility on the pitch, all the signs were pointing towards Jones ending his Liverpool career this transfer window.

Then, Andoni Iraola was appointed.

The arrival of Liverpool’s new coach will provide fresh starts for players who previously found themselves out of favour under Slot.

In his first LFC TV interview, Iraola said: “Right now, for me the thing is to value especially the players that we have right now in the squad.

“For me, and I will tell them, [they] are all new signings.

“For me, you are all new signings and I think we have a lot of quality in our squad, and [I’m] really looking forward to working with them.”

So, Jones should have a clean slate if he wants it.

It seems most likely now that the Liverpudlian will wait to see how he works with the Iraola, assessing his chances of regular game time before making a final decision on his future.
