Liverpool fans hoping for the signing of Yan Diomande have been left disappointed this Monday, with Bradley Barcola now appearing to be the next priority target.

Months of groundwork, a reported bid nudging close to €100 million, and behind-the-scenes conversations with the player’s camp – the Reds did everything right in their pursuit of RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande.

But David Ornstein of The Athletic reported on Sunday night that Diomande has chosen PSG as his preferred destination should he leave Leipzig this summer.

The 19-year-old Ivorian was said to be won over by conversations with PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi and sporting director Luis Campos, and was also eager to play under Luis Enrique.

But as one door closes, another swings open – and it has a very familiar name above it.

Bradley Barcola has long been on Liverpool’s radar. Romano confirmed back in May that the Reds have held a “genuine interest” in the PSG winger for over a year, calling him “a player super appreciated by Liverpool since one year ago”.

Now, with PSG expected to bring in Diomande as a direct replacement for Barcola in their attack, the Frenchman’s path out of Paris looks clearer than ever.

And according to a fresh report from French journalist Abdellah Boulma, the PSG attacker is open to a move with Liverpool and other interested clubs expected to resume talks after his World Cup campaign is over:

Under contract until 2028, Barcola is open to the idea of taking on a new challenge. Several major European clubs, including Arsenal and Liverpool, are closely following the file of the French international. The file remains open in the event of an offer meeting Parisian expectations. The parties will resume discussions at the end of the World Cup.

He added that currently, PSG is now opening the doors and that the player himself has not directly expressed to the Ligue 1 giants that he wants a move:

“Regarding Barcola, the file remains open. PSG is studying all scenarios, but its position is clear: the door is closed at this stage. If the player were to officially request his departure, accompanied by an XXL offer, the situation could evolve”

Luckily, the Anfield club already seem to have been preparing for this eventuality, with other targets besides Barcola already identified.
