For a club that has been linked with seemingly every winger, midfielder and centre-back in Europe this summer, one position has suddenly gone very quiet.
Right-back.
Only a few weeks ago, Liverpool were being linked with a steady stream of defenders.
Now, the speculation has almost disappeared.
It raises an interesting question.
Have Liverpool already decided they don’t need to strengthen in that position?
Plenty of Names… Then Silence
Earlier in the window, Liverpool were linked with several right-backs, including:
● Michael Kayode
● Givairo Read
● Amar Dedić
● Josh Acheampong
● Marco Palestra
At one stage, it felt inevitable that the Reds would bring in another option on the right side of defence.
Recently, however, those links have almost completely dried up.
Instead, attention has shifted towards wingers, midfielders and centre-backs.
Confidence in Conor Bradley?
The most obvious explanation is that Liverpool remain confident in Conor Bradley.
When fit, the Northern Ireland international has shown he has the quality to become Liverpool’s long-term first-choice right-back.
His energy, aggression and attacking intent appear perfectly suited to Andoni Iraola’s style of football.
If the coaching staff believe Bradley is ready to take on that responsibility, perhaps a new signing is no longer viewed as a priority.
Or Is Something Happening Behind the Scenes?
Another possibility is that Liverpool are simply working quietly.
The club has often completed major transfers without extensive media speculation.
Some of their biggest signings appeared almost out of nowhere before being finalised.
Supporters have seen this recruitment strategy many times before.
Silence does not necessarily mean inactivity.
It may simply mean negotiations are taking place away from the spotlight.
Could Versatility Be the Answer?
Liverpool also possess players capable of covering multiple positions.
Joe Gomez has regularly filled in at right-back when required, while several academy players continue to develop.
That flexibility may have reduced the urgency to recruit immediately.
Rather than signing another specialist, Liverpool may feel comfortable using existing options while monitoring the market.
Other Priorities Have Emerged
It is also worth remembering that Liverpool’s priorities have changed throughout the summer.
The long-term injury to Hugo Ekitike has increased the need for another striker.
The pursuit of attacking players such as Yan Diomande, Bradley Barcola and others has dominated headlines.
At centre-back, Liverpool continue to assess options following uncertainty surrounding that area of the squad.
Compared with those positions, right-back may simply have moved down the list.
Don’t Be Surprised by a Late Move
Transfer windows often develop in stages.
Liverpool may yet return to the market for a right-back before the deadline.
Equally, the club could wait until next summer if they are satisfied with Bradley’s progress.
For now, though, the lack of rumours is certainly noticeable.
Patience Required
Supporters naturally want clarity.
But Liverpool’s recruitment team have repeatedly shown they are prepared to wait for the right opportunity rather than make signings for the sake of it.
If the silence continues, it may simply reflect confidence in the players already at the club.
If not, don’t be surprised if a completely unexpected name suddenly emerges.
After all, Liverpool have built a reputation for doing their best business when very few people see it coming.
