Everton are in advanced negotiations to sign Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney for £25m, according to reports in The Telegraph from John Percy. The two clubs are expected to reach a full agreement later this week.
Middlesbrough have rejected at least three bids from Everton for their captain, but negotiations appear to be progressing. The Premier League club’s initial offer of around £7m earlier this month was rejected by Middlesbrough owner Steve Gibson, but the gap between the two sides is now narrowing.

Hackney, who turned 24 last week, had a standout season in the Championship, winning the division’s Player of the Year award. However, his campaign ended in disappointment as Middlesbrough lost the play-off final to Hull City. He has one year remaining on his contract.
