Atalanta’s Marco Palestra has completed his medical tests with Chelsea, ahead of his imminent move to Stamford Bridge.
Inter Milan made advances to sign the right-back before the Blues hijacked the operation by offering better terms to both him and Atalanta.
Last Wednesday, the 21-year-old said yes to Chelsea’s €5m per year plus bonuses offer.
The English club then struck a deal worth €60m with the Serie A side, who gave him the green light to travel to England.

The Italy international has completed his medical examinations with the Blues, after the two clubs found an agreement for €60m. This includes €55m plus in fixed fee plus €5m as potential bonuses.
Palestra, who has already agreed personal terms, will sign a contract until 2032. The Premier League side are finalising the bureaucratic details before making his signing official.

The defender spent last season on loan at Cagliari. Another report from TMW claims the Blues manager had followed the final three months of his loan spell and knew the player well.
Alonso insisted the English club push for his signing and his relentless pursuit has convinced Marco Palestra.
TMW state: ‘He even knew every match by heart during the last three months spent on loan at Cagliari, a relentless pursuit by Xabi that certainly won the player’s heart. When the Spanish coach called him, the 2005-born player veered strongly toward Chelsea.’
This convinced the player to accept Chelsea, who then found an agreement with Atalanta.
