Arsenal May Have To Move Very Quickly To Trigger Bruno Guimaraes’£60M Release Clause

**The release clause in the contract of Arsenal transfer target Bruno Guimaraes could expire on Tuesday night (June 30th), according to reports.**

There have been claims that the Gunners could pay a £60m buyout fee, which is currently active after the Magpies failed to qualify for the Champions League.

[_Chronicle Live_](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/bruno-guimaraes-transfer-newcastle-arsenal-34201079) say that “sources” close to the club “dispute any type of release clause exists,” but the newspaper hasn’t completely ruled out the possibility.

The main reason for that is Guimaraes has had similar release clauses in the past. In the summer of 2024, he was available for £100m, but that clause also expired on June 30th, so there is a chance that another one does exist with a similar expiry date.

Arsenal have not made an official bid

-------------------------------------

Both _Chronicle Live_ and insider _HandofArsenal_ have made it clear that the Gunners’ initial approach for Guimaraes was informal.

It is believed intermediaries were involved, with a proposal made below £60m. The offer was rejected out of hand by Newcastle, who do not want to lose their captain.

There have been [**suggestions**](https://goonernews.com/blog/arsenal-transfer-news-bruno-guimaraes-4/) that the Premier League champions could make a second bid for Guimaraes, and it will be interesting to see if it does trigger a hidden release clause.

Why do the Gunners want Guimaraes?

----------------------------------

Manager Mikel Arteta is keen to add a new midfielder to the ranks. Declan Rice was overplayed last season, with the Gunners boss not willing to use Christian Norgaard as his understudy.

The Dane is expected to leave the Emirates over the coming weeks, so a replacement is required. Guimaraes is one of several names under consideration, along with his teammate Sandro Tonali, West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes and Bournemouth’s Alex Scott.

A lot still depends on price and availability, so if the club’s attempts to land Guimaraes do fail, they will be keen to find an alternative.
