Manchester City are looking to secure the signature of Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi ahead of their Premier League rivals, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano revealed that Enzo Maresca’s side are prepared to let the teenager stay in France on loan until next summer as part of the deal.
“Manchester City made contact with people close to the player already some time ago. The idea, according to my information, from Manchester City would be: let’s try to sign the player now for summer 2027. So, let the player stay at Lille one more season and then eventually go to Manchester City in 2027.”

“It’s not done, but Manchester City are trying to work on this system, this structure of the deal. There are more clubs involved – Liverpool and Arsenal [are] also interested, because Liverpool had meetings, Arsenal had meetings. Many clubs are keen. Paris Saint-Germain keep following the player. But why Paris Saint-Germain are not closing for one of the best talents in the French league? Because Paris’ priority this summer is up front and at the back.”
“This is the priority for Paris Saint-Germain. This is why, at the moment, for Bouaddi, they’re not advancing. And this is why Manchester City are trying to take advantage and try to get the deal done eventually for 2027.”
Man City are are willing to match Lille’s demands
Another journalist, Fabrice Hawkins, who is very reliable when it comes to transfer stories involving French clubs, has confirmed that Lille are asking for between €80m (£69m) and €100m (£86m).
However, the Ligue One side’s president Oliver Letang has made it clear he wants Bouaddi loaned back for next season. Such a demand may be deemed unacceptable for other teams, but clearly it is something City are prepared to sanction. That suggests they are frontrunners for the Moroccan international.
Bouaddi could replace Rodri
One of the reasons why the Cityzens might be willing to delay the midfielder’s arrival for twelve months is due to Rodri’s contract situation.
The former Ballon d’ Or’s current deal expires in 2027, and Romano has recently confirmed that no progress has been made on an extension.
If Rodri does leave the Etihad Stadium on a free transfer next year, City might have a replacement waiting in the wings if they close the deal for Bouaddi.
