The two-year spell of Federico Chiesa at Anfield is coming to an end. Liverpool have told the Italian winger to find a new club, with fresh news confirming the Reds want between £10m and £15m to let him go this summer.
Chiesa’s two Seasons at Liverpool: A story of missed chances
As reported by Football Insider, Liverpool have decided to move Chiesa on this summer, with the club keen to free up wages as they reshape the squad under Iraola. The 28-year-old made just one Premier League start across two seasons, as per FOTMOB. He played only 1,253 minutes over his two years at Anfield.
Chiesa joined from Juventus in the summer of 2024 for £12.5m, and while the low fee made it a fair risk, the move never paid off. Injuries kept breaking his momentum, and the competition for wide roles was always tough. Former manager Slot even picked Jeremie Frimpong and Dominik Szoboszlai ahead of him when Salah was out, which shows how little faith he had in Chiesa at key moments.
Chiesa’s stats for the 2025-26 season, as per FOTMOB:
Competitions Matches Goals Assists Successful Passes
Premier League 26 2 1 81
FA Cup 3 0 0 32
EFL Cup 2 0 2 44
Romano’s update and what Federico Chiesa actually wants
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Chiesa’s stance is not as simple as Liverpool want it to be. Romano went on his YouTube channel and said Chiesa plans to join pre-season and see where he stands with Iraola before deciding anything.“At the present time, the decision made by the Liverpool player is to participate in the pre-season, to get together with the new coach Andoni Iraola,” Romano said.
Chiesa wants to fight for his spot under the new boss. Iraola took charge on a two-year deal after Slot was shown the door, and Liverpool wanted someone who plays on the front foot. Chiesa is quick, presses from the front, and can operate on either flank, which on paper makes him a decent fit for what Iraola is trying to build at Anfield. Liverpool want him out this summer, but he is not ready to leave without a fair shot under a new manager.
Federico Chiesa has been open about his future in a recent chat with Gazzetta dello Sport. He said, “I want to play. If I don’t find consistency in the Premier League, I’ll have to look elsewhere.I barely played in my first year at Liverpool, and in the last one, very little.” He also wants to force his way back into the Italy squad and he knows that less than 1,000 minutes a season at club level will block that path. If he and Liverpool cannot sort things out under Iraola, a move to Serie A looks the most likely way out.
Como 1907 are a live option, as Fabregas needs Italian players in his squad for their first ever Champions League season. As reported by TEAMtalk, Juventus, where Chiesa made his name, and Inter Milan are both tracking him as well. He is 28 and needs regular football to play week in, week out, not sit on the bench. He was in the Liverpool squad that won the top flight last season, yet he was barely used. If Iraola does not give him real game time this pre-season, the Reds have no reason to keep him and Chiesa has no reason to stay.
