It's a tale as old as time.
Clubs are snapping up players on the strength of an international tournament performance. It's certainly a tale older than 18-year-old Ayyoub Bouaddi, who is drawing admiring glances from Europe's biggest clubs while dazzling at the World Cup.
The Moroccan wonderkid has played his part in helping his country advance to the round of 32, where the African team will face the Netherlands on Monday. The decision-makers at Arsenal, Manchester United, and Liverpool may well be watching to see what all the fuss is about. They are not alone in monitoring the midfielder; Manchester City is also thought to be interested, alongside Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain.
Bouaddi featured in both of Morocco's opening fixtures, contributing to a 1-1 draw with Brazil before playing his part in a 1-0 triumph over Scotland. He was relegated to the bench for last week's 4-2 victory over Haiti, but he is pushing for a starting berth against the Dutch in Guadalupe, presenting Bouaddi with the opportunity to truly announce himself on the global stage.
Forged in France
Like most of Morocco's squad, Bouaddi was not born there. Rather, he hails from Senlis in France, born to Moroccan parents, and represented France at every level from U16 through to U21.
His soccer journey began at lower-league outfit Creil, where he spent nine years progressing through the club's academy before being recruited by Lille in 2021. Two years on, at just 16 years of age, he became the club's youngest-ever debutant and put pen to paper on his first professional contract.

A consistent presence at the first-team level ever since, the teenager signed a contract extension in December 2025. Bouaddi racked up 42 appearances last season as Lille secured third place in Ligue 1 and earned Champions League qualification.
Style of play
Defensively disciplined, Bouaddi shines at disrupting opposition moves and stopping attacks in their tracks. Operating at the base of midfield, he's what soccer calls a "press resistant."
That quality is highly prized by teams wanting to construct play from deep positions and avoid getting trapped in their own territory. Standing at 6-foot-1, he leverages his frame to protect the ball and possesses the physical capabilities to surge forward.
Bouaddi relishes carrying the ball and moves fluidly as he seeks to advance possession. He demonstrates comprehensive positional understanding, with both his club and national team deploying a 4-2-3-1 system.
Deciding his destination
Just 18 and tied down until 2029, Bouaddi has plenty of time ahead of him. While Lille are said to value him at £43 million ($57 million), the likelihood of a bidding war appears genuine.

Bouaddi has acknowledged that he's 'really happy' about the attention, though his focus remains on Morocco.
"For the moment, I'm only focused on the World Cup," he said earlier this month.
"I cannot answer this right now. I am really happy to know that some clubs are interested in me, but for now, I'm here focused on the World Cup with Morocco, and we will try to give everything to do our best."
