Arsenal have seemingly walked away from a deal to sign Sandro Tonali this summer, according to Chronicle Live, as the club focus on other midfield transfer targets.
It follows the Gunners looking at options to strengthen their central ranks, with Christian Norgaard's potential exit creating space for more competition in the middle of the park.
Mikel Arteta made heavy use of Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi through most of the season, while the influence of Myles Lewis-Skelly at the end of the campaign helped the team get over the line.
The arrival of another player in midfield could help take Arsenal to the next level, and several candidates for the role have appeared this summer already.
Tonali has been one of them, following links with a switch back in January, though a move now appears unlikely for the North London outfit.

Arsenal continue to be linked with a move for Tonali, as Newcastle United face the possibility of another huge sale or two in the summer transfer window.
That said, it seems as though a switch could be off the cards for the Gunners, as Chronicle Live outlines the demands that may have seen the club walk away from signing the Italian international.
The report states that Arsenal didn't entertain the £275,000-a-week demands, as well as the ten percent agent cut that will be placed on an already costly deal.
Newcastle are demanding £100 million to let Tonali leave this summer, a fee that may be accessible for some, but has seemingly put the Premier League champions off from making a move.
Instead, Arsenal have switched their attention to his teammate, Bruno Guimaraes, as the report adds that he is viewed as a "less-expensive alternative" in the summer transfer window.
While the Gunners pursue that move, it is seemingly their rivals Tottenham that are pushing ahead ot sign Tonali, who has been described as "world-class".
The fate of both midfielders could be intertwined, however, and Arteta may need his team to get moving on pushing through a deal in the coming weeks.

Arsenal Need To Speed Up Guimaraes Move
Newcastle United's Bruno Guimaraes celebrates vs Crystal Palacevia Reuters
Newcastle have faced difficulties when it comes to financial restrictions and with keeping hold of some of their best players. With the loss of Anthony Gordon already this window, another sale seems likely, but beyond that, the club may look to keep their top stars for the future.
So it would make sense if only one of Guimaraes or Tonali leaves in the coming weeks. So, given Tottenham's accelerated move for the latter, Arsenal may have to speed up their interest in the former.

The Brazilian only has two years remaining on his contract, which may work in the club's favour, as he could push to leave while at his maximum valuation.
So far, Arsenal have made offers via an intermediary, but no official approach has been made. If they can speed up proceedings to land a reasonable deal for a player in the peak of his career, it'll be just the start to the transfer window that the club could hope for.
