As reported by ESPN, Arsenal submitted a £55 million offer for Bruno Guimaraes. Newcastle turned it down. The Gunners spoke with the player’s representatives beforehand and felt a deal was within reach. Newcastle rejected the approach outright.
It is easy to see why Newcastle are reluctant to sell. They already lost Anthony Gordon to Barcelona this summer for £70 million. Losing their captain on top of that would be a very different kind of blow- deeper, more damaging to the club’s identity. Bruno Guimaraes has made over 150 appearances for the club since joining from Lyon in 2022. He is not just a footballer at Newcastle. He is the heartbeat of the team.
That said, there are cracks in Newcastle’s position. The club missed out on European football this season. As reported by Yahoo Sports, the Brazilian had an informal agreement that such an outcome could allow him to push for a move. His deal runs until 2028, but this summer is the last window where Newcastle can command close to his full value.

There is also a personal connection. As reported by GOAL, Sporting director Andrea Berta tried to sign Bruno Guimaraes during his time at Atletico Madrid. That kind of long-standing admiration tends to drive serious transfer pursuits. Arsenal have already signed Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen this window. Midfield remains the priority.

As reported by Football365, Arsenal are readying an improved offer. The exact figure has not been confirmed. What is clear is that Newcastle will not shift easily on a straight cash deal. That is where a part-exchange structure could become key.

A package combining players and cash might be the only way to unlock a deal. The Magpies need attacking reinforcements after Gordon’s exit, so there is at least a basis for conversation.
Bruno Guimaraes has kept quiet on the matter publicly. He is focused on Brazil’s World Cup campaign for now. But this situation will need to be resolved soon. With a second bid on the way, the next few weeks will be decisive. Arsenal’s intent is clear, and Newcastle knows it.
