The Reds’ winger hunt has taken a fresh turn this summer. As the latest transfer news makes clear, Liverpool are now monitoring Benfica forward Andreas Schjelderup, even as their pursuit of Yan Diomande drags on.
Why Andreas Schjelderup is on the Reds’ radar?

There is also an intriguing backstory. The winger had the chance to join the Merseyside club earlier in his career. He chose Nordsjaelland instead, feeling the Danish side offered a clearer route to regular football. That decision proved to be the right one. It earned him a move to Lisbon, and now he is back on Anfield’s radar from a much stronger position. His Champions League form helped a great deal. As reported by Football365, he scored twice in Benfica’s famous 4-2 win over Real Madrid, a result that put him firmly on Europe’s map.
He also fits the style Andoni Iraola demands. He works hard off the ball, carries well under pressure, and cuts inside from the left to connect attacks quickly. All of these are valued traits in a high-intensity pressing system.
What Benfica wants and who else is chasing the Norwegian?
The race for him is far from simple. AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, and Como are all said to be keen. Any club that wants him will need to move with real intent. As reported by TEAMtalk, Benfica will only consider offers from €40m upwards. There is not much room for bargaining there.

Andreas Schjelderup as an alternative, and why Diomande still comes first

Andreas Schjelderup mainly plays on the left. That is a position the club already strengthened by signing Victor Munoz from Osasuna. Still, the reasoning is not difficult to see. Leipzig are reportedly holding out for around €148m, as reported by TEAMtalk. If that price stays firm, the Reds will need a solid plan B. At around €40m, the Benfica man is a very different kind of deal. He is younger, cheaper, and with room to develop further in the Premier League.
Spurs are also chasing him, so it will not be easy regardless. But in a summer where the club are rebuilding its attack from scratch, having options matters. Andreas Schjelderup may not be the headline name Anfield wants right now, but he is very much a name worth watching.
