Arsenal are looking to strengthen their midfield in this summer’s transfer window.
Arsenal have been linked with Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, who enjoyed a brilliant campaign last term. He was nominated for the league’s Young Player of the Season award.
The north London side were reportedly ‘growing increasingly optimistic‘ about signing the former England youth international.
However, the BBC now report that Bournemouth have rejected Arsenal’s enquiry for the 22-year-old.
The Cherries insist that Scott is not for sale this summer. They plan to extend his current deal, which expires in 2028.
Arsenal could still sign Scott this summer
Scott played a crucial role in helping Bournemouth qualify for the UEFA Europa League last term, so it is unsurprising that they are reluctant to sell the English midfielder.
However, they risk having to accept a lower fee next summer if he fails to extend his contract, which may not be financially beneficial for the South Coast club.
We believe the Cherries are aiming to spark a bidding war among Scott’s suitors, potentially enabling them to command the highest possible fee.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has previously reported that Bournemouth value Scott at around £80 million.
It remains to be seen how much Arsenal are willing to cough up to sign the Englishman.
Described as ‘amazing‘ by former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, Scott would offer ball carrying, progressive passing and work rate to the Gunners’ midfield.
Manchester United have also been strongly linked with the former Bristol City midfielder. Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are believed to be interested in him too.
Meanwhile, Arsenal remain interested in Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes. They believe a £65m bid could tempt the Magpies to sell the Brazilian, who has two years left on his contract.
