Aston Villa Slap£130million Price Tag on Arsenal and Chelsea Target

Aston Villa are bracing for a summer scrap for Morgan Rogers, with the Midlands club valuing the attacking midfielder at a colossal £130 million, according to reports. The Villans have made it clear that they will not let their prized asset leave Villa Park for anything less than that staggering figure that would rewrite the transfer history books of English football.

Arsenal and Chelsea are both left to digest the scale of the task ahead of them, with the proposed fee comfortably eclipsing the existing British transfer record. Liverpool set that mark last summer when they paid £125 million to take Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, meaning a deal for Rogers would be fresh, uncharted territory in the market.

Villa think that the 23-year-old, who is currently on World Cup duty with England, is worth every penny of that demand. Central to Villa’s argument is the comparison with Rogers’ England team-mate Elliot Anderson, who recently agreed a £116 million move to Manchester City. Villa bosses are convinced their man is the better asset, citing his 18 international caps – six more than Anderson – and regular appearances on the continental stage.

Villa’s valuation has been affected by Middlesbrough’s 20 per cent sell-on clause, a remnant of the £15 million deal which brought Rogers to Villa in the 2024 winter window. It has compelled the club to increase their asking price to secure a healthy net profit.

Aston Villa Not Under Pressure To Cash In On Morgan Rogers

Aston Villa are not being stubborn but are in a real position of strength, and the numbers do the talking. Rogers is under contract until June 2031, which gives the club significant leverage in any negotiations and removes the threat of a player running down his deal. With no expiry date to fret over, Unai Emery’s men can comfortably name their price and wait patiently for suitors to either blink or walk away.

The attacking midfielder has maintained his end product throughout the campaign to justify the hefty price tag. Rogers scored 10 goals and set up seven more in 37 games for Villa in the 2025-26 Premier League season, as well as netting three goals and providing five assists during Villa’s successful Europa League run.

Crucially, Villa’s qualification for next season’s Champions League means there is little incentive to rip up a squad on an upward trajectory. The Midlands outfit are building, not selling, and to sell their stand-out creator would be entirely against that ambition.
