Chelsea talent offered to Brazilian club–Difficult situation for Blues

Chelsea youngster Kendry Páez is already being offered around the market after River Plate decided to cut short his loan spell. Brazilian side Atlético Mineiro are now weighing up whether to make a move.

The Ecuadorian has only just seen his time in Argentina come to an early end, but another destination may already be emerging.

According to RTI Esporte, Páez’s representatives have offered the 19-year-old to Atlético Mineiro over the past few days. The approach has prompted the Brazilian club to begin analysing the conditions of a possible deal. However, discussions are still at an early stage.

Chelsea looking for a fresh solution

Chelsea are expected to find Páez another club after deciding he is not yet ready to become part of the first-team squad for the 2026/27 season.

That leaves the Premier League side searching for a third environment capable of providing the regular football. Of course, neither Strasbourg nor River ultimately delivered that.

RTI Esporte also claims River’s decision was influenced by off-field issues as well as footballing reasons. However, the report does not provide further details.

Atlético studying the opportunity

RTI Esporte report that Atlético’s interest is a consequence of the player being offered to them rather than the club actively pursuing him.

Club officials are now evaluating whether a move would be financially viable. They have not ruled out presenting a proposal if the conditions prove favourable.

The report adds that Atlético’s coaching staff like Páez’s versatility, believing he can operate on either wing or through the middle as a creative attacker.

Another factor could influence negotiations. Atlético are planning for several market scenarios this summer. A possible departure for former Nottingham Forest midfielder Gustavo Scarpa would create additional financial room. It would also increase the need for a player with similar creative qualities.

World Cup and another crossroads

For now, Páez remains with Ecuador at the World Cup. The national team have already played three matches and secured qualification for the knockout rounds.

Nevertheless, Chelsea’s youngster is still waiting for his first appearance of the tournament after remaining on the bench throughout.

Even so, clubs are already beginning to position themselves before the competition finishes.

Whether Atlético ultimately follow up their initial interest or not, the report underlines one thing: Chelsea and Páez’s representatives are already working to find a new destination after two difficult loans in succession.
