Everton ‘progressing in talks’ to sign Tyrique George from Chelsea — report

Tyrique George spent the second half of last season on loan at Everton, and while the Toffees liked him well enough, they didn’t really give him (m)any minutes. So it was entirely unsurprising when they also opted to forgo their option to make the deal permanent.

But it would appear that Everton have not given up completely on this idea. They were just looking for a slightly better deal, which they are now negotiating with Chelsea, as per [The Athletic](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7406880/2026/06/29/chelsea-everton-george-transfer-permanent/). And it sounds like they are making good progress in these talks, with the report adding that a deal “could” be wrapped up by the end of this week.

The fee in question is said to be no more than £25m, which matches the buy-option in terms of value, but not in terms of structure. Everton are looking to pay less up front and back load the rest in various adds-ons and bonuses. That’s not ideal for us, but it might yet get us to £25m one way or another. And it’s not like George is itching to come back and try his luck with us one more time.
