Romano & Ornstein confirm Rashford bombshell as Man Utd respond to new Barcelona proposal

Following an 18-month exile, Marcus Rashford could be set to be reinstated into the Manchester United squad.

The 28-year-old has been omitted from the club’s plans since December 2024 on the orders of Ruben Amorim. He spent six months at Aston Villa, followed by a year at Camp Nou.

But despite scoring 14 goals and producing 14 assists in the Blaugrana colours, Barcelona decided not to exercise their option to buy the Englishman for £26 million, instead investing £70 million in Anthony Gordon.

Marcus Rashford & Man United discussing player’s return

Barcelona’s decision means Rashford is now set to return to Carrington after the World Cup. However, the initial plan for Man Utd was to find him a new suitor and register pure capital gains by selling one of the best products of their academy over the past decade or so.

But according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein, the England international could wind up staying at Old Trafford.

As the source explains, Rashford doesn’t fancy joining another Premier League club, and hasn’t received any enticing offers from big clubs. For their part, Barcelona could return with a new loan proposal, but INEOS won’t entertain another temporary solution.

Therefore, the versatile forward is ready to see out his MUFC contract, which is valid until June 2029.

Interestingly, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reports similar updates, but goes even beyond Ornstein, revealing that Rashford and United are engaged in reconciliation talks, with the reinstatement becoming an increasingly more plausible scenario.

Rashford’s return to Man Utd makes sense on every level

As reported earlier today, Rashford’s return can be a comprehensive boost for Man Utd’s squad, giving the head coach the natural left winger he’s been seeking, while freeing up Matheus Cunha to play in a more central role, and prompting Patrick Dorgu to reestablish himself in his original left-back role.

Prior to these newly surfacing reports, a former Man Utd defender Wes Brown had exclusively told Utd Report that Carrick would love to have Rashford at his disposal next season.

And with the 44-year-old getting an important say in the club’s transfer strategy, it appears that the stars could finally line up for Rashford’s grand return to Old Trafford.
