Chelsea are among the clubs in the running to sign Tottenham Hotspur‘s Lucas Bergvall this summer.
Earlier this month, The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported the midfielder has informed Tottenham of his desire to leave.
Since then, there have been claims of interest from multiple clubs, including Chelsea.
Four days ago, the Sweden international insisted he remaind focused on the World Cup and isn’t thinking about his club future.
He said: “I’m fully focusing on the World Cup. I’m here with Sweden, and we’re going to try to make a good impression in the US Whatever happens after that, we’ll deal with it then.”
Why Swede should leave Tottenham
Fotboll Direkt discusses Lucas Bergvall’s situation at Tottenham Hotspur and what could be the best option for him in this window.
Journalist Fredrik de Ron believes Spurs have long-term plans for the 20-year-old.
However, Roberto De Zerbi hasn’t utilised him and is unlikely to change his stance next season. Therefore, he urged Lucas Bergavll to find a new club.
“It doesn’t come as a huge shock. Spurs are in a pretty dark place and De Zerbi doesn’t hold Lucas Bergvall in high regard. He has barely played during De Zerbi’s time at Spurs,” he said.
“I know Spurs hold Bergvall very highly and see him as a future big player, but if he doesn’t have a place in this team, maybe it’s time to let him go.
“The amount that has been reported is around SEK 560 [€50m] and I think that’s a bit low, but if that’s the money on the table, maybe it’s just as well to “cut your losses” and let him go. There’s no point in having a player like that who doesn’t play.”
Spurs midfielder told to snub Chelsea
The outlet points out claims made elsewhere about the Blues as an option for the 20-year-old.
Fredrik de Ron warns Lucas Bergvall to snub Chelsea, who have appointed Xabi Alonso as their new manager.
“If I were Lucas Bergvall, I probably wouldn’t have chosen Chelsea, mostly based on the fact that it’s quite unclear what’s going on at that club,” De Ron explained.
“Xabi Alonso is coming in as the new coach after the summer. You don’t really know what he wants to do with this Chelsea and whether there’s a place for Lucas Bergvall.”
The indications point to Bergvall leaving Spurs, and he has to decide his next destination.
