AC Milan are looking into various options for the centre-back role, with two new targets emerging this morning.
After ticking off the striker signing with the arrival of Gonçalo Ramos for a record fee (around €80m, bonuses included), Milan has no intention of stopping on the transfer market and is aiming to satisfy another request from Ruben Amorim, who wants a top central defender.
Antonio Silva has been the subject of much talk in recent days, so much so that he seemed to be the chosen one. However, Benfica have asked for around €30m, a sum deemed excessive by the Rossoneri for a player whose contract expires in a year.
The other names
As reported this morning by Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), Milan are turning their attention to other targets both in Italy and abroad, more specifically in the Premier League.
A player the club long been interested in – having been scouted in the past by Igli Tare and Massimiliano Allegri – is Tiago Gabriel. He’s part of Jorge Mendes’ agency, which offered him to the club after the Antonio Silva talks fell through, but the Lecce star will cost €35-40m.
There are also two other players under under Milan’s watch, who share a city. The first is John Stones , whose contract with Manchester City expires and is therefore leaving for free. After many years under Pep Guardiola, he could provide experience, but Saudi clubs are after him too.
The second defender they’re interested in is Lisandro Martinez, a Manchester United player whose contract expires in 2027. Amorim knows him well, with the pair having previously worked together at the Red Devils.
