“We have every right” – Director confirms talks to sign Liverpool player

For weeks, Inter Milan have been attempting to sign Liverpool‘s Curtis Jones. There has been optimism that a deal can go through at some point but hopes of positive movement are reducing.

Sport Witness have covered how the Italian champions have made an initial offer.

They put forward €20m, but Liverpool’s demand has remained at €30m. The Italian press have made it clear this should change, with Jones keen on moving to the San Siro.

Things could now be going in the opposite direction, as the Reds’ have remained firm in their stance.

Ausilio opens up on Liverpool transfer

Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio spoke to Tuttomercatoweb about the Nerazzurri’s transfer dealings. A move for Jones was also a topic of discussion and the Italian clarified that he is a fan of the midfielder.

Confirming interest in him, he said: “I’ve never denied my interest in this boy. We even tried in January, but I have to be equally honest: we like him. He’s a player who certainly has the qualities that could potentially bring something extra to our already very strong midfield.”

Ausilio added that a move is proving complex and Inter are considering whether to walk away.

“However, right now there’s a significant gap between our assessments and Liverpool’s. Since he’s a Liverpool player, they have every right to ask for what they legitimately want, but we have every right to decide whether we’re happy with that or not, so right now I’d say it’s a very difficult move.”

Our take: Waiting game on

Inter will soon part ways with Denzel Dumfries, who will join Real Madrid. Davide Frattesi is also departing and his exit holds the key in the move for Jones.

This was also the case in January, when Inter stepped forward for the Liverpool player. He was seen as a replacement for Frattesi, who was close to joining Nottingham Forest. The same possibility can open up once again and the Italian’s next move will give Inter the money to sign Jones.
