The Athletic’s David Ornstein has provided a slightly surprising update on Liverpool target Bradley Barcola.

After Yan Diomande signalled his intention to join PSG, Barcola has been touted as the next winger option Liverpool aim to explore.

As far back as the summer of 2025, the Reds were heavily linked with the PSG winger, with reports from that window suggesting he was on their radar as a serious option.

Widespread reports insinuated that a transfer merry-go-round could occur, with Diomande going to PSG, and in turn, Bradley Barcola then making the switch to Anfield.

But now writing in the Transfer Dealsheet, David Ornstein has come out to assert that PSG do not “need” to sell Barcola and even if they do, it would be “much higher” than the £116m deal for Elliot Anderson’s move to Manchester City:

“Paris Saint-Germain do not need to sell Bradley Barcola — who is of interest to several Premier League clubs — after agreeing a huge deal for Goncalo Ramos to join Milan for what is a club-record fee for the Serie A side. Barcola appears reluctant to sign a new deal amid lower game-time than he would like and he is pushing for more starts.”

“PSG feel the speculated market rate for Barcola, who is not for sale, is way off and he should be valued at a much higher price than the £116m Manchester City will pay for Elliot Anderson.”

Barcola is tied to PSG for another two years on his current deal, and Arsenal are keeping a close eye on the France international’s situation.

However, their main focus on the left wing at the moment seems to be Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers.

Supporters have watched Diomande edge closer to the Parc des Princes and are now wondering if Barcola could realistically become the next major target, or if his price tag will simply be too rich for the Reds in this window

Any new update from a heavyweight journalist like Ornstein on PSG’s stance towards Barcola and what it would take to prise him away is going to be huge reading for Liverpool fans.
