Bradley Barcola price tag rockets as PSG use Man City transfer as benchmark

Liverpool’s hopes of landing a deal for Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola may have taken a knock with the French club insisting on a nine-figure fee.

Barcola is positioned as Liverpool’s next high-profile attacking target following the news of Yan Diomande’s preference to join PSG this summer.

If Diomande were to leave RB Leipzig for Paris, it would likely open the France international up for a sale having already entered the final two years of his contract.

However, The Athletic‘s David Ornstein reports that PSG view Barcola as “not for sale” and that they value him significantly higher than his “speculated market rate.”

The latest report from the CIES Football Observatory values Barcola at €76.8 million (£66.1m), while FotMob estimate him to be worth £61 million and Transfermarkt slightly lower at £60.3 million.

But PSG are claimed to see Barcola as worth “way more” than the £116 million fee agreed for Elliot Anderson’s move from Nottingham Forest to Man City this summer.

It is maintained that PSG “do not need to sell” after agreeing a deal with AC Milan for Goncalo Ramos and making Lee Kang-in and Randal Kolo Muani available for transfer.

However, a not-for-sale stance is not typically reported along with a price tag, lofty or otherwise.

The likelihood is that this is simply the beginning of PSG’s negotiation tactics amid interest from a host of Premier League clubs including Liverpool and Arsenal.

Barcola is widely considered one of the best wingers available in this summer’s market along with Diomande, and there will be no shortage of suitors if he pushes for the exit.

That strengthens PSG’s hand, as does Man City‘s eye-watering deal for Anderson – a player with zero Champions League experience who joined Forest from Newcastle for just £35 million two years ago.

Anderson’s impending switch to the Etihad appears to have skewed a number of deals, not least around midfielders such as Adam Wharton, Alex Scott and Manuel Fernandes.

Liverpool are in need of elite-level additions in both midfield and out wide, which makes life harder for sporting director Richard Hughes and higher-up Michael Edwards.

Brighton‘s Yanbuka Minteh, Koln’s Said El Mala and Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo are held up as alternatives to Diomande and Barcola.
